The UAC - Right Wing National Security Astroturf for 2006 MidTerms
Sun Jan 22, 2006 at 06:14:29 PM PDT
The United American Committee (abbreviated UAC - close enough to HUAAC to cause concern) came to my attention just yesterday.
from here
At various hours during the day on February 1st, and at different locations across America, a consortium of Christian, Jewish and Muslim groups will all join the United American Committee in sending a clear message across the nation against extremism and terrorism by showing their support for the U.S. military, our Coast Guard and Border Patrol, the FBI, Homeland Security and all other government agencies that protect us in the War on Terror. In addition, the rallies will also be to oppose Saudi Arabian influence in our government and at our universities at this time when the Saudis are actively involved in funding terrorism and furthering extremist ideologies. The UAC goal is to show a united front of the majority of Americans to tell congress to take action.

While Bush Promises Billions, Gold is at $455 (+Poll)
Thu Sep 15, 2005 at 10:15:01 PM PDT
which is a
17 year high.
Mining stocks are breaking out.
Check out kitco's web site for more info. There is a list of mining stocks here. Check out the HUI index and its components for unhedged gold mining stocks if you are so inclined. (Unhedged means these mining stocks will participate fully in any price increase of gold. Hedged mines have promised to sell their gold in the future at a predetermined price.)
GLD is the gold ETF you can buy for your 401k or regular stock market account. In a taxable account, it is taxed as a collectable. Go figure...damn liberals always mucking with the tax code ;).
PSPFX is a gold based natural resource mutual fund I like alot in this environment. It is a lot less volatile than a 100% gold mining stock fund.
I think that Gold going up like this means there is a lot of fear and uncertainty in the markets about the future.
Censure BushCo: Something Dems can do immediately (+poll)
Sun Sep 04, 2005 at 11:00:26 PM PDT
This is going to be a very short diary...it is actually just an extended comment, but I think the idea warrants a diary and its own Warhol moment.
I have not seen any proposals for the Dems in Congress to censure Bush and his administration for their handling of the aftermath of Katrina.

My prayer about Karl Rove: a Monday rant
Mon Jul 11, 2005 at 07:51:11 PM PDT
In reading the transcipts of today's Lies with Scotty, I feel that the dam has finally broke on Karl Rove's treachery.
Karl's revelations of a CIA's agents identity for political gain is treasonous. There isn't a single self identified Kossack who would disagree.
The Republicans will try and try and try to mitigate the damage from Rove. We must not let them. In the short term, I am hopeful that their efforts will not be effective.
What I am worried about is the long term.

"Hate-riotism": a new word for today's Republicans (Poll)
Thu Jun 23, 2005 at 07:23:28 PM PDT
As I read the diaries on dKos today about Rove's obscene, vile remarks,
a word popped into my mind that captures the current Rove/Bush/Limbaugh/Coulter/Hannity
approach to political speech and civil discourse.
"Hate-riotism". Practiced by "Hate-riots". Rhymes with "patriot" but starts
with "hate". Rolls off the tongue. Describes these people in thee to five
syllables better than any other single word I've encountered.
More on the flip....
